Single and Relocating - Tips For Singles Who Are New in Town

Relocating for a career? Deciding to move to a new city to start anew? This can be an exciting period in your personal life and while some might find it to be a bit scary to relocate, try to put a positive twist on the uncomfortable feelings. Embrace this special time of opportunity and meet people with enthusiasm. Capitalize on the opportunity to start new relationships!

Here is a list of tips that might be helpful if you are single and relocating. Regardless of where you might be, these tips will help you meet people in your new area! Have fun!

Some basic tips for the single that is new in town:
-Join Activity Groups and Networking Groups- There are groups available for every interest and many can be easily found online. While you might feel awkward going alone, be comforted in knowing that almost 70% of those that attend these groups are also attending them alone. It will actually force you to meet new people in a comfortable atmosphere.

-Review all of the local social magazines and publications- Many offer calendars of fun events, such as charity balls, live performances, foundation parties, and upscale socials. Circle a few of them and go!

-Volunteer - Choose a cause that you are really passionate about. Research them online, look up their local office and give them a call. Chances are they will be thrilled to include you and it will give you a chance to meet others with the same passion.

- Hit the Wine Tastings and other Restaurant Promotions - Often restaurants like Morton's will have cocktail tastings where singles can enjoy their samples and mingle. Because Morton's is an upscale chain, they can provide you with the opportunity to meet new people in a familiar atmosphere while enjoying cocktails paired with their delicious foods. Also, many area wine shops can offer recommendations to wine tastings that are being planned during the present month.

-Get involved in a group athletic activity, such as soft ball or soccer - Go scout them out and approach the idea with vigor. Ask a player how s/he joined and what the experience has been like. Even for those who are not terribly athletic, there are several teams that cater to singles, where a social happy-hour is usually planned after the matches!

-Lastly, say YES to everything and put yourself out there - You've mustered the nerve to move, now push yourself to experience it all! Show off the best side of yourself, have fun with it!
